# 08 C8 Z06 GT3.R Corvette debuts in SRO World Challenge at Sebring
Straight to the point, the # 08 DXDT Corvette was not a factor in its debut at Sebring. Scott Smithson spun while running 3rd in the car he shared with veteran driver Bryan Sellers.
Taking delivery just a few weeks ago, David Askew’s DXDT team is the last of four (4) teams slated to race the C8 Z06 GT3.R Corvette in 2024, in this case the SRO World Challenge Series (see footnote about SRO).
Keep in mind there was hardly time for any real testing.
GT Sports Cars of today are complex. In the words of the sagacious Doug Fehan, “the big thing is getting everything to work together”. That is harder to do than it sounds. A crew from car builder Pratt & Miller was on hand to speed up the learning process.
DXDT (from Statesville NC northwest of Charlotte) is well regarded for preparing and racing other marques, for example their own Mercedes AMG and the # 04 of SRO series kingpin George Kurtz, CEO of Crowd Source.
Veteran racer Spencer Pumpelli & Trent Hindman of the RSI team won on Saturday and Sunday completing 44 laps in their Porsche 992 GT3R.
Tommy Milner from the Corvette Racing Team and Alex Udell are scheduled to race a second DXDT Corvette # 63 in the next round at CoTA coming up on May 17-19.
Mirco Schultis in his # 70 Callaway C7 GT3.R Corvette # 70 battled Kyle Washington’s # 32 GMG Racing Porsche 911 GT3-R all weekend finishing 5th and 6th completing 19 & 20 laps in shorter SRO GT America races (see footnote about SRO).
Johnny O’Connell, ex Corvette Racing Team star was runner-up both days in the # 3 Audi R8 LMS GT3 SKI Motorsports team of Kent & Melissa Hussey.
Footnote – Stéphane Ratel’s London-based SRO organization, est. 1995, hosts racing events world-wide. In the USA, SRO took over the former SCCA World Challenge Series in 2013. The SRO World Challenge Series is the top level. Lower levels include the SRO GT America Series. Championship points races are held Saturday and Sunday at each given venue.
